In a landmark move to address water scarcity and climate-induced challenges, the Odisha Cabinet has approved the “Intra-State River Linking Scheme” with a budget of ₹1790 crore.

Scheduled for implementation between FY 2025–26 and 2029–30, the scheme aims to connect water-surplus river basins with drought-prone regions across the state.

The initiative comprises six major projects, including the Kalra Link and Vansadhara-Rushikulya Intra-link, designed to enhance water storage, reduce flood risks, and boost agricultural productivity. Officials say the scheme will ensure equitable water distribution and strengthen Odisha’s resilience against erratic monsoon patterns.
