Thompson Valley senior Mia Villafranca struck out her 11th batter of the game and walked off the field while removing her mask for the final time as an Eagle on Thursday at TVHS.
It was a fitting finish for a player who defied the odds all season and was able to end her high school career in the circle that she has dominated in for the past few years.
A basketball injury was supposed to keep her from playing her senior season. She made it into the starting lineup as the team’s first baseman just a few games in.
Villafranca still wasn’t expected to pitch, but late in the season she was able to do that as well. Which made her seven-inning, one-hit shutout against crosstown rival Mountain View that much more impressive.
