A suspected serial arsonist was arrested by police in San Jose.

The police department announced Friday the suspect was taken in custody the night before after receiving reports of a person starting multiple fires near streets and freeways in East San Jose.

Responding officers took a man in custody. The suspect was found in possession of a blow torch with a gas tank, a torch lighter and a book matches, police said.

Records show the suspect had multiple arrest warrants for arson out of Santa Clara County, according to police.

The man was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for arson and his outstanding warrants.

Police said firefighters responded quickly to knock down flames.
