PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. (WSAZ) - Three people were indicted for gross abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and obstructing official business in Portsmouth, according to the Portsmouth Police Department.

Police said officers responded to the rear yard of 1804 High St. in regards to a deceased individual near the alley in March of 2024.

Patricia Collins, the resident of the home, said she was taking garbage out and discovered the body of Tiffany Shy, according to police.

Shy was the girlfriend of Patricia’s son, Joseph Collins, police said.

According to police, Patricia said Joseph was briefly at the scene, but fled before first responders arrived.

Police said autopsy results indicated Shy’s death was an accidental overdose.
