GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- The county won’t move ahead with a proposal to provide a new benefit for residents -- access to a company that helps individuals cut down on their student loan debts.

A committee of the county Board of Commissioners agreed on Wednesday, Oct. 8, to reject a proposed $180,000, one-year contract with Savi Solutions -- a Washington, D.C., company that offered to help residents with student loans find new payment plans or forgiveness options.

The committee’s decision came after several weeks of consideration and debate, and several commissioners said they’re willing to revisit the issue -- potentially with another vendor or nonprofit company -- in the future.
