PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Providence’s vacant Superman building made national news this week after The Wall Street Journal featured the local landmark in a story about challenges in finding uses for historic office buildings.

Mayor Brett Smiley acknowledged that he winced when he saw the building's photo next to a headline that read: "The Landmark U.S. Office Buildings That Are on Life Support."

"I wish that the front page of The Wall Street Journal was about our largest building being under construction and a beacon of vitality and reinvigoration," Smiley said. "Obviously, that story also highlighted that we're not alone in this challenge. Many places in America are struggling with similarly large buildings that used to be commercial."
