CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Cranston city employee was arrested Thursday after accidentally firing his gun near a synagogue, police confirmed to 12 News.
Police said Robert P. Bailey, 40, was working for a private security company — not in his city capacity — near Temple Sinai when his gun accidentally discharged.
Bailey turned himself in to Cranston Police Headquarters around 2:30 p.m., according to a police report. He also surrendered his gun and blue card.
He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a license. Police said he was not charged for firing the gun, since the discharge was accidental.
Bailey was arraigned and later released on $10,000 personal recognizance.
His exact position with the city has not yet been confirmed.
