COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The longest-serving inmate on South Carolina’s death row died in prison this week.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections said 81-year-old Fred Singleton died of natural causes at Kirkland Correctional Institution’s infirmary on Monday.
Singleton was convicted of the rape and murder of a 73-year-old Newberry County woman in 1983.
No further details regarding his death were immediately available.
