ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A new women-owned coffee shop and bookstore has moved in along Rochester's South Avenue.
After a few years of planning, The Siren and the Sea is now located at the former John's Tex Mex Building in the South Wedge.
"More than books and coffee, I just wanted a place people would feel comfortable coming to hangout and comfortable to read a book, have a cup of coffee to meet friends, or to study. It's a bright space. I wanted something to counter the gray weather that is sometimes Rochester," said Jessica Gale, owner of The Siren and the Sea.
The name is a nod to Homer's 'The Odyssey.' Gale is a University of Rochester graduate, who got into the business of bookselling in Illinois. After five years, she's bringing her expertise back to Rochester.
