The acting police chief in Haverhill, Massachusetts, has been placed on administrative leave, the mayor said Friday, shortly after he stepped in for now-former Police Chief Robert Pistone.

The Haverhill Police Department has been in turmoil — the Haverhill Police Patrolman's Association on Thursday announced that union membership voted no confidence in the leadership of either Pistone or his acting replacement, Deputy Chief Stephen Doherty.
