ROUND ROCK, Texas — The Round Rock Police Department is warning families about a potentially dangerous new social media prank involving fake “home invasion” images created with artificial intelligence.

Police said they have investigated at least two incidents in the last week where someone used AI tools to generate realistic photos of strangers inside their homes, then sent them to parents claiming a break-in had occurred.

“It looked like a burglary. It looked like a home invasion,” said Commander Tom Sloan with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. “As a parent, if I saw that, I would call the police.”
