Austin Magera, entering his third season of pro hockey, already has an idea of what it takes to win in the ECHL.

He’s won individually, claiming the ECHL Rookie of the Year and being named an All-Star in 2023-24 with 29 goals and 45 assists for the South Carolina Stingrays.

Last season, Magera was one of seven Stingrays players with at least 50 points, helping them go from missing the playoffs to winning the Brabham Cup as the league’s best regular season team.

“I realized it's a little bit different from college,” Magera said of his time in South Carolina. “It’s more physical.
You gotta be gritty. You can't be afraid to take risks, so I just kept adding, playing a 200-foot game. I want to play as much offense as I play defense and then just try and get better every single day.”
