MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man accused of being responsible for the death of a Memphis officer in 2024 has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to more than a dozen charges against him.
Devaron Taylor was only 17 years old when officer Joseph McKinney and another suspect were killed during a shootout in Southwest Memphis.
Two other officers were also wounded during the exchange of gunfire.
Although an investigation revealed McKinney was killed by friendly fire, the Shelby County District Attorney's Office claimed Taylor's actions were the cause of Officer McKinney’s death.
Taylor was charged with facilitation of second-degree murder and 12 counts of aggravated assault.
