STANFORD, Ky. (WKYT) - A beloved member of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a final farewell Friday.

Numerous first responders participated in a procession for Luma, the K-9 partner of Chief Deputy Michael Mullins.

In August, Luma was forced into early retirement after being diagnosed with a rare bone cancer .

The procession traveled from the sheriff’s office to the Animal Care Center in Stanford, where Luma was euthanized due to her battle with cancer worsening.

Law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMS personnel lined both sides of the entrance to the veterinary clinic as Deputy Mullins led Luma inside, then carried her into the facility for her final moments.

Luma served alongside Deputy Mullins for many years as part of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office.
