A boil order was issued for all of Lake Forest late Friday after a major water main break caused water pressure to drop below levels considered acceptable by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, the city announced.

The city advised residents and businesses to bring all water to a rolling boil for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or washing food.

Tap water can still be used for laundry, household cleaning, and taking showers or baths, the city said.

The order will remain in place until the city confirms the water is safe to drink, which could take 24 to 48 hours.

The water main break occurred on Westleigh Road, according to city spokeswoman Dana Olson.
