(WAFB) - Seven weeks after a fire and explosion at Smitty’s Supply caused millions of tons of waste to leak into the Tangipahoa River, crews continue working around the clock to recover remaining oily waste. But an independent environmental researcher is raising concerns about the scope of testing, leaving residents wondering if the area is as safe as the EPA claims.

Scott Smith, who has spent 19 years conducting environmental testing following contamination events, said his testing reveals chemicals the EPA should be looking for but isn’t.
