LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

The case of a man who was freed from prison years after killing a 6-year-old Kentucky boy is under national scrutiny.

Ronald Exantus was arrested in Florida after being released from a Kentucky prison after serving less than half of his original sentence.

Prosecutors said he drove from Indianapolis to Versailles in December 2015, randomly entered a home and stabbed Logan Tipton, 6 , to death while he slept.

Exantus said he had a psychotic break and didn't remember the stabbing.

In 2018, a jury found him not guilty of murder by reason of insanity, but convicted him of assault for injuring Logan’s family.

He was sentenced to 20 years, but was released from a Kentucky prison last week, around just 10 years into his original sentence.
