Joe Wheeler EMC and Flash Fiber are grappling with repeated fiber line cuts in Morgan and Lawrence counties, affecting their high-speed internet service. Officials report thieves, mistakenly believing the lines contain valuable copper, have cut them four times over the past year, with the latest incident occurring this week.

Dana Hornsby, Fiber Operations Manager, emphasized the community impact, saying, "This costs the company thousands each time it happens, not only does it take time and money to fix but it's a great impact to the community."

The company manages about 3,600 miles of fiber, and while previous cuts affected hundreds of customers, the latest disruption was minimized due to network redundancy.
