FARGO — With the shift from summer to fall, homeowners are turning their furnaces from cool to heat, but experts say now is the time to make sure the system is ready for winter.
Joel Carlson, install manager at Laney’s, said a professional check-up is key. “Get your furnace serviced before it gets too cold out there. But it's gonna run several thousand times a winter. So you want to make sure that it's ready to do that,” he said.
In addition to professional maintenance, small tasks can help furnaces run efficiently. Checking and cleaning the filter regularly is essential. Darrin Moffett, journeyman installer at Laney’s, explained, “Regular maintenance. That includes your filter. That's kind of the heartbeat of the whole system. Keep the filter clean. (The) system lasts a long time.”
