PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — The Pawtucket Redevelopment Agency is once again seeking development proposals for the long-dormant Apex building and the vacant storefronts that surround it.

The city bought the ziggurat-roofed Apex building for $17.7 million via eminent domain nearly three years ago after negotiations with the former owner fell through.

The pyramid-shaped department store, which was first built in 1969, has since been combined with six other surrounding parcels into a 20-acre space.

The city's goal is to revitalize the space and eliminate blight through its so-called "Downtown Gateway Project."
