Portland intends to open three new overnight-only shelters in undisclosed locations in the coming weeks, according to a notice sent to the City Council on Friday.

The shelters, which collectively will have room for 80 people per night across all three sites, are meant for families with children, according to the letter.

Portland this year has already opened five overnight-only shelters . This marks the first time that city officials are not disclosing the location of the new shelters, which they say is meant to protect people escaping domestic violence.
