Srinagar, Oct 10: A major train accident was narrowly avoided at Bhangala station in Jammu division on Friday when smoke and sparks were noticed coming from a freight train wheel, prompting quick action by railway staff.
The empty NMG freight train was passing through Bhangala station at approximately 3:25 am when the station master, Vijay Kumar, noticed unusual sparks from the wheel of the 15th coach of the train.
“I saw smoke and sparks coming from the wheel and immediately realized the potential risk. I immediately signaled the train manager to stop the train. Following his signal, the train halted safely after crossing the advance signal at kilometer 81/2 between Bhangala and Mukerian,” he said.
