ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis man convicted of a 2022 double murder in north St. Louis was sentenced Friday to 27 years in prison.

Eric Wooten, 28, who pleaded guilty in August to two counts of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree assault, opened fire on the victims while they were inside a car in the city's North Riverfront neighborhood.

Kevin Payne Jr., 19, was found dead in the street that day. The second victim, Florentino Pegues, 24, who had been shot in the face, died six months later from his gunshot wounds. A 16-year-old was treated at a nearby hospital.

Prosecutors said that Wooten was in the car with the three victims while they were driving near North Broadway and East Taylor Avenue after filming a music video.
