CREVE COEUR — De Smet senior quarterback Gabe Rodriguez brought back an old pee wee football ritual before his Spartans hosted Festus on Friday night.

“It was like, I believe that we will win, but it had a little twist to it,” Rodriguez said.

The throwback is another example of the fun he and his offensive teammates have been having in the past three weeks. And the fun continued once the game started as De Smet rolled to 56-28 win in a nonconference game.

De Smet (4-3) has now scored 56 points in each of its last three games, all wins.

“We figured some things out,” De Smet coach John Merritt said. “We were young early in the season. We're still young now, but we're growing up.”

Rodriguez went 12 for 17 passing for 228 yards and three touchdowns. Cam Sharp ran for 163 yards on 14 carri
