WISHEK, N.D. — They've been at it for a century now.

It was back in 1925 that Wishek hosted its first Sauerkraut Day.

Those "Germans from Russia" immigrants who wanted to honor their culture. This weekend, the people of Wishek were back at it again, for their 100th festival. A three-day event to mark the milestone.

You couldn't ask for a more perfect Sauerkraut Day in Wishek on Friday, Oct. 10. Blue skies and a town ready to roll out its welcome mat.

"Roll out the barrel," the high school choir sang as people gathered at the sauerkraut feed.

And they weren't kidding: in town, you can smell the goodness cooking.

Mike Vangorkan and crew arrived early to cook the 'kraut and wieners.

"All together it will be 260 gallons of sauerkraut, 1,100 pounds of hot dogs and 500 pounds of bacon," V
