BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - Local food banks are preparing for more people to need food assistance as the government shutdown hits day ten, and some federal employees prepare to not receive paychecks.
The Community Foodbank of Central Alabama says it’s ready for an increase of people needing help putting food on the table given the government shutdown. The food bank says anyone can pick up food from a distribution site free of charge.
"There is absolutely no questions asked. If there are some questions, it’s literally so we can better serve our neighbors," said Ginger Pegues, director of development for the Community Foodbank of Central Alabama. "In all of our 12 counties, we have these incredible food distribution partners and we’re ready. Again, no ID is needed, no proof of income, we ju
