WEST COVINA – It might be too early for “must win” games, but the battle between West Covina and San Dimas Friday felt like one.
West Covina dug itself into an early hole and spent the entire second half battling back for a 23-20 victory with a game-winning field goal in the final minute.
The win kept the Bulldogs (5-2, 2-0) tied for first place in the Valle Vista league with Northview (6-1, 2-0).
The Bulldogs trailed the Saints (4-3,1-1) 14-0 at half and never led until junior Isaiah Rodrigues broke a 20-20 tie with a 37-yard field goal with 13 seconds left for the victory.
“That field goal was close to the edge of my range,” Rodrigues said. “The offense drove down and gave us a chance. I felt a little pressure but it really felt great to win the game.”
