PASADENA — South Pasadena’s Trey Freking ran the ball 23 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns in Friday night’s 23-22 victory at home against La Cañada.
Trailing 14-3 by the end of the first half, South Pasadena rallied in the second half and scored 19 points to pull off the comeback and give La Cañada its first loss of the season.
Freking’s first touchdown came on the first possession of the third quarter after South Pasadena head coach Jeff Chi surprised everybody by kicking an onside kick to begin the third quarter.
“The coaches are just confident in us and giving us as much edge as we can get,” Freking said. “He put as much trust in us to get that ball back, and we did.”
The Tigers (4-4, 2-0) recovered and then scored seven plays later. Freking opened the drive with a 21-yard run
