More than one million pensioners are receiving Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Attendance Allowance payments for at least 5 years.
DWP data shows over 1.7 million people were receiving Attendance Allowance at the end of February 2025. In total, some 563,746 (36%) of individuals claiming Attendance Allowance have been granted an award of five years or longer.
You need to be of State Pension age, so currently aged 66 or above, but Money Saving Expert says: "Your finances are irrelevant. Attendance Allowance isn't means-tested, so if your condition means you qualify for help, you'll get it regardless of your income or savings."

The benefit delivers either £73.90 or £110.40 weekly
