In a sudden turn of events, Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi canceled his scheduled speech at Darul Uloom Deoband on Saturday.

Although he was expected to stay until 5 PM, Muttaqi left by 2:30 PM, reportedly due to the large crowd. Official confirmation for the cancellation has not been released.

The visit also sparked controversy over the presence of female journalists. Women reporters covering the event were asked to sit separately behind curtains by Darul Uloom media in-charge Ashraf Usmani.

Earlier, Muttaqi was welcomed with flowers at the Deoband Islamic seminary, but the massive crowd of students rushing to meet him broke through security.

Police had to intervene, and as a result, the Afghan minister could not receive the traditional guard of honor.
