A federal judge in Boston ordered the release of a 13-year-old boy who was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and is being held at the agency’s temporary holding facility in Burlington.
Judge Richard G. Stearns ordered that the boy be released by Tuesday unless ICE and the Department of Homeland Security can show grounds for why he should be detained, according to court documents.
Stearns noted that the boy is being held “presumably in the company of unrelated adult detainees.”
“Unless respondents show cause by close of business on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, for grounds justifying the detention of a juvenile in these circumstances,” the boy must get a hearing to consider bail before an immigration judge no later than Oct. 17, Stearn’s order reads.
