New rules are in effect for visitors to downtown Montgomery following a mass shooting that left two people dead last weekend.

Montgomery city leaders have suspended privileges that allowed patrons to carry alcoholic beverages outside within the entertainment district.

The city council voted unanimously Tuesday to suspend those relaxed rules in response to the deadly violence.

“Licensed restaurants and bars will continue to offer outdoor seating, and patrons may still enjoy alcoholic beverages within those designated areas,” the city said in a release Friday. “However, drinks must remain on the premises and cannot be taken into the street or other parts of the district.”
