A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a blaze at a home in Middlesbrough.

The 52-year-old is being questioned in custody by Cleveland Police following the fire on Percy Street in the Gresham area on Friday night. As reported, the blaze broke out at the terraced house at around 9pm and emergency services were on scene for several hours.

Police have confirmed nobody was in the property at the time of the alleged arson attack. Forensic officers were seen carrying out investigations following the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police and fire crews responded to a fire at an address on Percy Street in Middlesbrough last night, Friday, October 10. Thankfully, nobody was in the property at the time.
