CHARLESTON — A steady rainfall did little to dampen spirits as hundreds paraded down King Street on Oct. 11.
“You can’t have a rainbow without first having a storm,” Brian Lee, parade director for Charleston Pride , told participants ahead of the soggy Saturday event
Rainbow-clad crowds lined the parade route from Wragg Mall to Marion Square as the air filled with iridescent bubbles and anthems such as Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club.”
“It’s important that, even on a rainy day, we show that gay people, lesbian people, transgender people exist here in the Lowcountry, and that we support one another,” said Peter Schnaak, who watched the parade amidst a group of friends and their cheering kids. “It’s one of the best days of the year for visibility for us as a community.
