The Louisiana Secretary of State's office is asking that poll workers remove lanyards that prominently feature the name of Orleans Parish Criminal Clerk Darren Lombard, who is running for reelection.

Voters arrived at polling stations Saturday morning to find poll workers wearing lanyards with Lombard's name and title on them and badges prominently featuring his photo, an apparent violation of election law that prohibits officials from displaying a candidate's button at polling locations.

"We have been made aware (of the lanyards) and the Clerk’s office has asked, or will shortly be asking, the commissioners to remove them," Deputy Secretary of State spokesperson Joel Watson, Jr. said in an email at about 11:15 a.m. Saturday.
