The Colorado Avalanche will be down a man on the back end of their blue line for the foreseeable future.

Defenceman Samuel Girard has been listed as week-to-week while dealing with an upper-body injury, the team announced Saturday ahead of their showdown against the Dallas Stars.

It’s unclear how or when Girard suffered the injury. He suited up for both the Avalanche regular-season games up to this point and played 18:47 in their 2-1 win over the Utah Mammoth on Thursday.

The 27-year-old was a steady presence on the Avalanche blue line last season, tallying three goals and 21 assists in 73 games and added one goal and two assists in seven playoff games.

Originally selected by the Nashville Predators 47th overall in the second round of the 2016 draft, Girard has 34 goals and 189 assists
