A former rockstar has died after being attacked whilst serving a sentence in HMP Wakefield.

Ian Watkins, who was the frontman for Welsh rock band Lostprophets, had been serving a 29-year sentence for child sex offices.

Another inmate attacked and fatally stabbed him on Saturday morning, sources have confirmed. New Feature

Emergency services were sent to the prison in West Yorkshire but the former rock star was pronounced dead at the scene.

The prison was put into lockdown following the attack.

Watkins, 48, was sentenced to 29 years behind bars in December 2013, after being found guilty of a series of sex offences, including the attempted rape of a fan’s baby.
