House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries had rejected a standalone bill to pay troops during the shutdown, urging Democrats to support his short-term plan to reopen the government.
Earlier this week Rep. Johnny Olszewski, D-District 2, announced that he requested to the House Office of Human Resources to have his pay withheld, saying members of Congress should be treated just like federal employees and the nation’s troops.
