After months of nomadic existence, the Washington Veterans of Foreign Wars is ready to open a new canteen at a new location. The VFW shut down and sold its previous location near Main and Meridian streets in July of 2022. Since then they have been looking for a new space, operating as a paper post which had a charter and members, but no canteen. The VFW has located a building next to the Indiana Theater and will open on Oct. 18.
“We are in the process. We have filled out the papers. We have sent everything in,” said VFW Commander Mike Heshelman. “Our liquor license is in escrow and he are trying to get that straightened out so we can order some product and be good to go. We have our gaming license, so we are good with that.”
