SOMERSET — After a three-quarter long struggle to generate scoring threats in a chippy and physical matchup Saturday morning, the 4th-ranked Somerset Berkley field hockey team produced just enough in the fourth to edge Div. 3 powerhouse Sandwich, 1-0, on senior day.

Ryan Crook flicked a slow bounding ball from the top of the circle on Somerset Berkley’s sixth corner of the frame, which snuck through to give him the game’s lone tally with 2:46 left. Ella Vaught had the assist on the insert.

Last year, the No. 3 Blue Knights (11-1-1) rolled over the Blue Raiders, 8-2. Somerset Berkley won the rematch to hand Sandwich — playing without star senior Quinn Jordan — its first loss of the year.
