EAST LANSING — Before UCLA was loudly celebrating their victory over Michigan State in the visiting locker room of Spartan Stadium on Saturday, the difference between the two Big Ten programs was clear out on the field.

The Bruins’ 38-13 routing of the Spartans on their home field was that of a team surging the last two weeks after firing their head coach and making major changes to their coaching staff.

Meanwhile, for the second straight season the Spartans (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten) have coughed up a 3-0 start to the year to lose three straight and MSU’s performance on Saturday was the roughest of the Jonathan Smith era.

Michigan State was outgained 418-253 — with well over half of its total coming in the second half already down three scores — and averaged 4.2 yards per play against a UCLA
