BOWLING GREEN — With 24 seconds left in the first half, running back Cameron Pettaway dragged the entire Toledo defense for a 45-yard touchdown — changing what could have been a blowout in front of 24,000 at Doyt Perry Stadium into an improbable victory for Bowling Green.

The Rockets, who were favored by 10½ points, saw their 21-0 lead evaporate en route to a second consecutive loss in the Battle of I-75, falling 28-23.

“Tough game today, obviously disappointed we put ourselves in holes, penalties, I think, cost us and put us behind the eight ball,” Toledo head coach Jason Candle said. “A lot of mistakes and self-inflicted things we have to clean up and get off the tape if we’re going to improve as a football team.”
