CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Kirkwood community college’s veterinary technician program is showcasing its students’ work.
“Ever since I was little I’ve been telling people I’m gonna be a veterinarian, vet tech, I’ve always wanted to work with animals," said Emily Timp.
Timp is a first year student in Kirkwood college’s veterinary technician program.
First year students are paired with a shelter dog for six weeks. The students prepare them to be sent off to their forever homes.
“We get to train them, we take care of them everyday. That’s probably my favorite part so far,” Timp said.
Kirkwood’s program has 40 total students and the first years are working with 11 dogs.
While the program works to keep animals out of the shelter, the students themselves are in pretty high demand as well.
