RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) -- All week long Fire Departments across KELOLAND are talking about Fire Prevention Week.

The Rapid City Department has been focusing on lithium ion batteries and the fires that could start from everyday items.

Laptops, cameras, and even most power tools with their lithium ion batteries could start a dangerous fire if damaged.

"Cause a fire, they can cause an explosion really. It's called thermal runaway and what that is, is you have all the energy into a small space and that's what's causing these fires or an explosion to happen and that's what we need to be careful and look out for." RCFD Public Information Officer Tessa Jaeger said.
