Christopher Newport, ranked 21st nationally by d3football.com, couldn’t have had a much more dominant road game Saturday.

The Captains (5-0, 2-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) scored touchdowns on all five first-half possessions and went on to rout homestanding Vermont State Castleton 69-7.

Tallwood High graduate Gunner White rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. Drevyon Tharrington, a freshman fgrom Granby High, ran for two TDs and 68 yards on five attempts. Zavier Kennedy also had two rushing touchdowns among his nine carries for 52 yards.

Connor Barry was 10 of 14 for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Backup quarterbacks Brandon Pena and Cooper Meads got experience after the outcome was decided, as did some of coach Paul Crowley’s reserves at many other positions.
