A child is injured after being shot near Jackson State’s football stadium on Saturday night.
Hinds County sheriff and interim Jackson Police chief Tyree Jones announced at 7:44 p.m. that gunfire rang out near the tailgate section on West Street outside Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. The JSU football team played Alabama State for its homecoming game, drawing 44,000 fans and even more in town for the festivities.
Jones said the child was transported by police to the nearby University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment. No suspects have been arrested at this time. Both the Jackson Police Department and Capitol Police Department are investigating the incident and asking for any relevant information to be turned over to them immediately.
