In West Bengal, a student from Odisha, studying at a private medical college in Durgapur, was raped allegedly by three men. Police have detained one person after the victim’s parents lodged an FIR. The second-year MBBS student was allegedly gang-raped near the college premises on Friday evening. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has urged his West Bengal counterpart, Mamata Banerjee, to take swift action against the perpetrators of the crime. The survivor, from Jaleswar in Odisha, is undergoing treatment at the college hospital and gave her statement to the police. The National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the West Bengal DGP seeking the immediate arrest of the accused.
