(KRON) -- California Governor Gavin Newsom is sharing his thoughts on the passing of actress Diane Keaton, who died in California at age 79.

A family spokesperson confirmed her death to People on Saturday and asked the public to respect the privacy of her loved ones.

The Los Angeles-born actress was known for her roles in classics such as "The Godfather," "Annie Hall," "Father of the Bride" and "The First Wives Club."
