Garrett Nussmeier took his fair share of punishing shots. There were times when the South Carolina defensive front collapsed his pocket and drove him into the turf, testing the structural integrity of the sore torso behind so many of the LSU offense’s problems.
But each time, Nussmeier picked himself up. He wore the effects of those hits on Saturday, but only momentarily. They didn’t linger into subsequent drives of a 20-10 win over the Gamecocks.
Instead, other factors derailed the LSU offense instead of a mysterious injury to its quarterback. Nussmeier looked sharp enough to give the Tigers two touchdown drives, which were all they needed to win.
“He was a lot more aggressive,” coach Brian Kelly said. “I thought he had that kind of demeanor that you’re looking for in your quarter
