New Orleans has a new mayor, sheriff and City Council members after Saturday's election, when voter turnout was high and winning candidates took to podiums to celebrate and reassure residents they'll work to keep campaign promises.

Helena Moreno wins mayor's race outright

After months of polling showed Moreno would secure between 47-51% of the vote, the City Council member and former New Orleans journalist won the seat outright Saturday with 55% of the vote.

Mayor-elect Moreno, a Democrat, defeated a slew of competitors, most notably Sen. Royce Duplessis and fellow City Council member Oliver Thomas.
